Credo
|
IMDB rating: 4.10 Plot: A modern supernatural horror film that explores the dark side of the human psyche, and the terror in facing up to one’s darkest fears. Set in London, England, the film begins with a group of theological students who decide to test their faith by proving the existence of Hell. Following their ritualistic summoning of a demon, the students are all found dead, apparently by suicide. Ten years on, a group of five final-year students are evicted from their student digs and break into the now abandoned Catholic halls of residence for the weekend, only to discover that they’re not alone. |

What is a good CREDO for a 15 year old guy?
I NEED HELP WITH MY HOMEWORK! LOL
I hate homework!
I am doing a magazine for an English project that is based on myself and cannot think of a credo.
Incase you dont know what a credo is its a statement of what you beleive. I beleive in a lot of things, so can some of you guys give me a bunch of ideas?
Thanks!
Coming up with a "credo" is something only you can do. How are we supposed to know the essential you? We’ve just met you.
Think of it this way - if you had 10 seconds to explain the essence of you to someone, what would you say? That’s close. Bring that down into a catchy phrase, there’s your credo.
Catch: it’s not easy. Especially when branding yourself. You might want to ask family or friends for advice though - people who don’t know you can’t possibly tell you what your essential essence is.

What is a good name for a young girl in a story?
I’m writing a book, and I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. The main character is a young girl, around seven, living in WW2. She’s petite, with red hair and frightened green eyes, and she lives in a farmhouse to avoid bombs.

Martyrs
|
IMDB rating: 7.10 Plot: A young woman’s quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child leads her and a friend, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity. |
Actors: Toupin Robert,Dolan-Tadros Xavier,Chute Mike,Chute Mike,Pham Jessie,Drama,Horror,
Why do some women get so much enjoyment out of being martyrs?
It’s like it’s a competition to see who can tell the biggest horror story about how awful her man is and "you think that’s terrible, wait until you hear this" and blah blah blah.
Oddly enough, if these women had the option to be with a man who isn’t awful, then they’d whine about how awful it is that he isn’t awful.
Why is that?
Having lived with a martyr for 28 years, I’ve concluded that it relieves them of all guilt and responsibility. You’ll notice that if you catch one at something their first line of defense is always to somehow blame it on you.
Their husband is actually the true martyr for her. He absolves her of all sin, be it cheating or chocolate. And he’s her whipping boy, in that he takes the lashes for her crimes. After all, somebody has to pay and it certainly isn’t going to be her.
So when they get together and do this they’re just sacraficing the lambs to make themselves clean.
Good question. Star for you.
Guytheterrible | Sep 03, 2009
I don’t really think they do this on purpose. probably just happens because their man wont listen to them or be supportive..so they have to vent to someone about it.
Steph | Sep 03, 2009
Anyone who settles for a truly lousy husband or wife shouldn’t complain about it, if they’re willing to tolerate being treated bad then they need to find some respect for themselves instead of complaining about it to friends who can’t fix the problem,

its what i call the martyr syndrome…. i have a sister this way she isnt happy until she is miserable. and complaining, and whining. never wants advice on how to rectify the situation tho. i dont put up with it anymore anytime she starts in with a negative about someone i change the subject. eventually she gets the point. i dont know why this happens tho that they like feeling miserable.

you know what i think is really gross about that? is the fact that these same women chose these men they talk trash about.
okay - so if you are who you hang with, then the people you attract are a reflection of you - IDIOT!
they make themselves look dumb. listening to that helps me to understand why some men call women chickens!

I would argue your assumption that some women are martyrs, but I can’t. I’ve read too many Joan of Arc letters right here on YA. ("You think that’s bad, my ex burned me at the stake!")
I’ve mentioned a few tidbits about previous relationships as a warning to some others who seem headed down that same road. But if I was in a bad relationship now, I’d be too embarrassed to talk about it until I’d remedied the situation. Maybe they’re just venting…?
So I guess I have no answer at all. Now I’m just venting, hahahaha!

I’m a wife and I agree with you. All of my married friends (including sister-in-laws), do this and it really irritates me. First of all because I’m friends with the men involved also, not just the women. Plus 2 of the people that are being trashed are my brothers. If they start trying to get me to complain I just tell them how great my marriage is. I can’t complain. Which is the truth. I also don’t believe in airing a couple’s dirty laundry. Problems will become 100 times worse if everyone is putting there 2 cents in and you can’t think straight let alone make a decision that effects your marriage (because every fight counts, don’t say the wrong thing, both parties will remember the wrong that was done). I don’t know why women do that (men do it too though, it’s not just us) but the immaturity needs to stop.

what is the meter of this poe poem?
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
Its meter is inconsistent- varying between trochaic tetrameter and iambic tetrameter. But he throws in sponees too.
I adore Poe but regular meter was not his intent.
This is a wonderful poem, but if you are doing a critical analysis I would focus on imagery and theme and how they relate to form.

How does one explain our innate desire for meaning?
I don’t think anyone out there denies that all humans desire purpose, and meaning. Of coarse, my explanation is, that there’s a God. However, if you don’t believe in God–then what is your explanation for this phenomenon? (not the scientific definition of the word) I say it’s a phenomenon, because animals are not worried about a purpose–they just live. All their actions and reactions are based on survival instinct. So why, since the very beginning of man are we constantly seeking meaning, purpose, and something to worship? If you say we evolved to that higher plane of being–doesn’t evolution only happen out of need? If these things really are futile, wouldn’t they set us back, instead of bring us where we are today? Let’s face it, a lot of our greatest Scientists were religious. Einstein, Newton, Bohr, Pasteur, Kepler, and the list goes on.
Everyone worships something. If you’re honest with yourself you’ll see that–whether it’s your job, your family, your science, your knowledge, or yourself–something is being worshipped. I think a better word to use here is to "serve". We can do nothing but serve something–or else our life really wouldn’t have purpose. Also, the definition of purpose? What does it even mean if you die and are forgotten? That’s what will happen to a vast majority of us–so what happened to your purpose?
The Lord Jesus put the desire for meaning, there, so that He would fill it with Himself!
JESUS is the meaning and purpose of life! Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much!
And the Trinity is true!
Only Jesus truly satisfies our souls, and only Jesus gives TRUE fulfillment! Nothing else will satisfy you or fulfill you, no matter what you acquire.
The meaning and purpose of life is to be loved, saved, and blessed by Jesus, and to glorify the Lord, and to serve and worship Jesus forever!
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in Jesus for salvation, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus alone for salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what!
Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).
Please pray now: "Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die!

We have an inate curiousity about things and realize it. Other animals have curiosity but don’t know why and don’t contimplate it, they just do it. It’s part of our evolution…
It’s built in and a god has nothing to do with it… that’s just some peoples explaination, doesn’t make it so…
BTW, I have no need to worship anything, but I do have a purpose in life, it just doesn’t involve a god… nor does it have to… if you thought about it, you wold see that..

We humans are pattern seeking machines. This provided an adaptive benefit to our ancestors. If we can make connections between a rock falling and breaking a bone open and using the rock as a tool to smash bones so as to get at the marrow, obviously we’ll have better chances at survival. But this simple ability to make abstract connections has left us with a desire to make wholistic sense of absolutely everything, trying to make a pattern that will account for the entire universe.
Rico JPA | Feb 04, 2010
I think that our thirst for knowledge puts us in a situation where we think that there are answers for everything even when there may not be. The further back we go in history, the more need we had for gods to explain how our world worked. As we learned more, we needed the god-explanation less and less.
Many people cling to their beliefs, not because they want the world explained but because they want their afterlife explained. We fear death. As humans, we know we will die. We don’t know what happens afterwards, if anything. Knowledge of our mortality drives many people to find solace in something that will protect us.
Myself, I don’t seek solace. I know I will die and I believe that is all there is. This drives me to live a better life here. I want to be the best I can be for my friends and loved ones because once I am gone, I can’t be there for them any more.

It’s our specialisation.
We recognise the connection between things. For instance, when some caveman {yes, I know most of them didn’t actually live in caves, but it’s a convenient shorthand for "our prehistoric ancestors"} bashed a couple of rocks together and some nearby dry grass went on fire, he made the connection that you can start a fire that way. When some other caveman heard something moving nearby, turned round and found that his friend wasn’t there anymore, he made the connection that tigers eat people. And so on.
Sometimes we falsely see connections where there isn’t one. This wasn’t a problem for cavemen, who spent every minute trying to get through the next minute. After the Agricultural Revolution, however, people had more time to think about other things; like "why are we here?"
Unfortunately, they got it spectacularly wrong.

Barbara | Feb 04, 2010
The desire for meaning and purpose comes from the human-primate brain and the way it is structured. We are a tool-using animal, therefore when we look at objects we see how might they be utilized. This assigns attributes and functions to our environment, after some time the functions of these objects become the very purpose for these objects when they become specialized tools. [A hammer's purpose is to hammer nails, using it for other things is outside its 'purpose', in truth, its but a shaped rock on a stick]
However when man looks into the mirror and sees himself, the same mechanisms fire in the brain signally the question "what is my function, what is my purpose?" We see ourselves as tools and look for a pre-defined purpose, all the while forgetting that it is we who designate purpose/meaning to things. We must use ourselves and provide ourselves with meaning.
Our ability to question our environment and our difference from animals is a byproduct of language and the ability to have that inner dialog with oneself. It is still a survival instinct, but remarkably complex and one that adapts to the environment. We seek to worship things because we evolved as a pack species. We follow the alpha male of pack, they lead us to the greatest success and in order for the pack to work, we must all follow and respect the alpha male.
All these tool-using instinct and pack-following instincts has helped us survive. New mutations are popping up everyday, that which is most favorable, that which is most attractive will be the traits which are more popular in the future, thus is evolution.
It is possible to marvel in the beauty of nature, to be spiritual. But to be religious requires dogma. There is a stark contrast. Those scientists were spiritual, not religious.
Unus Mundus | Feb 04, 2010
Einstein was a pantheist. He didn’t believe in a personal god, although his quote "God doesn’t play dice with the universe" has been misused by Christians ever since he uttered it.
Animals do not have the intellectual capacity for self-awareness, we do. That’s why we are always seeking a purpose to things. That doesn’t mean there is a purpose to everything, some stuff just happens. I am far happier now that I don’t attribute some divine malevolence to natural occurrences on this planet. There is a logical, natural explanation to everything even if you can’t see it.
I define what has meaning in my life. I make my own purpose. We all do, whether we are consciously aware of it or not.

Alien Trespass
|
IMDB rating: 7.50 Plot: The story begins in 1957 in the star-filled skies above California’s Mojave Desert. It is a special night for noted astronomer Ted Lewis, who is preparing a special dinner for his beautiful, adoring wife Lana to celebrate their wedding anniversary. In another part of town, Tammy, a waitress at small local diner with big plans for the future, looks out her window and is excited to see a shooting star, which she takes as a good sign for her dreams. But, what Dr. Lewis and Tammy assume is a shooting star, is really an alien spaceship. The fiery ball hurtles toward earth and crash-lands on a butte in the desert. The only witnesses are teens Dick and Penny who are necking in a nearby lover’s lane. A tall, metallic alien named Urp emerges from the craft unharmed, alarmed to discover that the monstrous Ghota, who was also on board, has escaped. The menacing one-eyed creature’s unquenchable appetite could mean the end of civilization as we know it. Urp is the only one who knows how to stop the hideous extra-terrestrial, but to do so he has to take over the body of Dr. Lewis and enlist the aid of Tammy, the only human in town willing to believe and trust in his mission. The local police - including Chief Dawson and Officer Vern - are confirmed skeptics and offer little help. Together, Urp and Tammy must hunt down the Ghota and neutralize it before it consumes all the local inhabitants and uses the human fuel to multiply and conquer the world! |

Family wants Ozark County woman charged for helping illegal immigrant/murder suspect
by Chad Plein, KY3 News
GAINESVILLE, Mo. — A year-and-a-half-old murder case in Ozark County took a turn on the courthouse lawn on Thursday.
"We just want justice," many signs read.
Family and friends of Alonzo Foster Jr. were out in force, picketing.
"Our lives are shattered," said Alonzo Foster Sr.
In July 2008, the 22-year-old man whom they called Zo was fatally shot at a picnic on Lick Creek. An illegal immigrant from Mexico, Jesus Sesena-Murrieta, was charged with second-degree murder.
"The woman that was harboring him, she’s been held responsible for nothing," said the victim’s sister, Jacky Holt-Foster. "We have no peace, no closure."
That woman’s role in harboring Sesena-Murrieta was the focus of the picket.
"If she had not allowed him to stay with her, keeping him on her property, he would not have been there to shoot my son," said Foster.
"(Sesena-Murrieta) may have pulled the trigger," Holt-Foster said, "but she gave him the things he needed to do it."
When it comes to this woman, it’s KY3’s policy in this story and all stories to not name parties unless charges have been filed.
All the Fosters and their family and friends want is justice for Zo but the sheriff says his hands are tied.
"If there was a law where I could do it, I’d do it," Ozark County Sheriff Raymond Pace said, "I’d have no problem putting them away."
The sheriff says this is a federal ordeal. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Springfield office says it is aware of the case.
"(At this time) we’re not going to do anything to muddy the water, or jeopardize the state’s criminal case," said ICE’s Mike Spinella.
Spinella went on to say the statute of limitations for a case like this is usually five-years.
"It just seems like your country’s letting you down," Foster said. "She’s doing whatever she wants, having fun; my son can’t do that."
"People think in time it fades away. It doesn’t," said the victim’s sister, Christina Foster.
A trial date has yet to be set for Sesena-Murrieta. Witnesses say Sesena-Murrieta claimed Foster was trespassing with family and friends while picnicking along Lick Creek.
The ICE office and Foster family directed KY3 to Sec. 8 u.s.c. 1324 in regards to any person harboring a known, illegal immigrant.
The Fosters also want agents to look at Sec. 18 u.s.c. 922 paragraph d-5 when it comes to Sesena-Murrieta having and using a firearm.

What do you think of my 2 epic poems?
Tell me what you think.. their kinda weird, both are the same kinda style and idea
Embryo
In the naked light it seemed so familiar
Crisp and righteous in the face of old ideas
With the sun and stars pulsating before it
We witnessed the unveiling of an embryo
As the silence grew we knew our discovery could never be spoken
For it bared no merit in the form of words
Yet the feelings never fade for they are the core of wisdom and the rudiment of belief
Like freedom in the eye of reverence and beauty in the seed of will.
The Heavenly Doorway
Unto what seems like a doorway into oblivion you hang in the balance of an impending irony
You feel as though you are slipping away further into the depths of insanity
You take your final mental steps as a human being and fall into its broken frame
Falling you begin to transform, slowly at first and then faster as time stretches into eternity
Within fragments of abandoned memories and familiar embryonic rudiments
You notice a natural and infinite imperative binding all forms of atomic energy
You stop falling as the splendor of an augmented perspective encumbers your being
You are dead and yet within there is light shining with the collective ability of a million suns
It is the sacred merging of a necessary duality with itself creating an objective beholder of thought
The loneliness of one bound to the grace of eternal wisdom and beauty
You begin to rise up with the blessings of a billion saints chanting for the return of their creation
You rise with the veracity of their divine song unto a doorway of light bringing you back home
Upon arrival you realize life hangs suspended in the echo of a cosmic plan ordered in the image of love.
nice…………….Really very nice

Those are horrible. They’re just chain-of-conscience paragraphs with extra line breaks and no punctuation, garnished with incredibly tacky metaphors. They have no poetic value whatsoever.

You have serious potential in writing, try and cut the number of words down though, do an experiment to see if you can do the same poem (the second one), in fewer words. This will make the poem neater and less complicated for the reader. You don’t want to throw loads of big words at the reader as this is a turn off, what you should do is choose the best of the words and put them into a simpler poem.
Consider Ted Hughes’ poem, "Two Phases", the first verse:
You had to come
Calling my singularity
In scorn,
Imprisonment
It contained content
That, now, at liberty
In your generous embrace
As once, in rich Rome
Caractacus
I mourn.

I recommend Ted Hughes the Collected Works to any aspiring poet.

And don’t listen to Julie S, she’s clearly one of these people whose enjoyment in life is being mean to people, and you will find a lot of those in the poetry community. Be prepared for it.

You might want to explore the world of Epic poetry, start with Gilgamesh.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that’s not an epic. An epic is like The Inferno or The Iliad or The Odyssey or Paradise Lost. Tens of thousands of lines long.

IMDB rating: 3.20 Plot: In this classic retro horror thriller, Sam (Thomas Calabro), an aspiring writer, takes a job as a clerk in an L.A. inner city grocery market owned by the sinister Dr. Munoz, a former scientist who claims to have a rare skin condition that forces him to live in sub-freezing temperatures. Meanwhile, Sam befriends an attractive neighborhood boutique owner Maria (Ashley Laurence) and becomes unwittingly entwined in a threatening love triangle when she reveals that ex-boyfriend Detective Defazio (James Russo), who is investigating the recent disappearance of two local prostitutes, is stalking her. But it’s what Sam doesn’t know that might prove more fatal. A darker, diabolical secret lurks behind the freezer walls of his newfound employment. Sam is horrified when he discovers that Munoz died some time ago, but has kept himself alive through occult measures and the flesh that he harvests from his kidnapped victims. With Defazio off track in his investigation, Sam becomes captive in this house of horrors. Time is running out and he must escape to save his own hide - literally. Will he escape before the next fall of Munoz’s razor-edged blades? Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s spine tingling tale of the macabre, “Cool Air”. |

How do you clean a chill mat that is used for laptops?
My chill pad is all dusty inside and it sounds loud when runs. Anyone know how to clean it? I tried used a vacuum to suck some of the dust up and a Q-tip to loosen some of the dust, but it is still very dusty inside.
A lot of shaking, q-tips, vacuuming and compressed air in there should do the trick. If the chunks are too bulky you might want to try pipe cleaner. You know, the stuff for arts and crafts.
GL to you!
