The Little Princess
|
IMDB rating: 7.10 Plot: The story sets in the England ruled by Queen Victoria. Sara (Shirley Temple) is a little girl who doesn’t have anything in the world but her father, Captain Reginald Crew (Ian Hunter). War times run, and Captain Crew’s sent to fight with the British army to Africa, to fight against the boers. Sara’s worried about her father and she’s afraid of his security. The girl is registered in an exclusive seminary for girls, only for a period of time, until Captain Crew returns from Africa. Amanda Minchin (Mary Nash) is the strict woman that runs the seminary, but Sara makes friendship with a kind young teacher, Rose (Anita Louise) and with a horse instructor, Geoffrey (Richard Greene). So, Sara’s life at Minchin Seminary is very happy, but everything there has a monetary cost, even the birthday party and the presents that Miss Minchin sets up for the girl. When Sara knows the terrible notice about Captain Crew’s death, the girl feels devastated and all the privileges will end up, because there’s no money to pay for that. Miss Minchin tells to Sara that she can stay, but in a dark and creepy attic and she’ll have to work as a servant of all her friends. But the friendship with a nice Indian servant from the next house (Cesar Romero) and with the other servant girl, Becky at the seminary, will make much pleasant the things for Sara, who keeps the hope that her father is still alive. |

Beowulf & Grendel
|
IMDB rating: 6.10 Plot: The blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior’s battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel. Heads will roll. Out of allegiance to the King Hrothgar, the much respected Lord of the Danes, Beowulf leads a troop of warriors across the sea to rid a village of the marauding monster. The monster, Grendel, is not a creature of mythic powers, but one of flesh and blood - immense flesh and raging blood, driven by a vengeance from being wronged, while Beowulf, a victorious soldier in his own right, has become increasingly troubled by the hero-myth rising up around his exploits. Beowulf’s willingness to kill on behalf of Hrothgar wavers when it becomes clear that the King is more responsible for the troll’s rampages than was first apparent. As a soldier, Beowulf is unaccustomed to hesitating. His relationship with the mesmerizing witch, Selma, creates deeper confusion. Swinging his sword at a great, stinking beast is no longer such a simple act. The story is set in barbarous Northern Europe where the reign of the many-gods is giving way to one - the southern invader, Christ. Beowulf is a man caught between sides in this great shift, his simple code transforming and falling apart before his eyes. Vengeance, loyalty and mercy powerfully entwine. A story of blood and beer and sweat, which strips away the mask of the hero-myth, leaving a raw and tangled tale. |

3. Madelyn … sounds "Mad"
1. Emma is a very common name in stories. I would suggest some of my favorite names, but it really depends when and where the story is taking place. Where did she grow up? If she is meeting her twin sister, who named her? Her real mother or her foster mother, etc …? I would pick a more old-style name if it were my character like Caroline, Gwendalyn, Roslyn, etc… but that is just me
2. Dana would be good, but also pose the same questions as the first. You could even go for something symbolic of evil, like Medusa or Pandora.
3. I like the name Rose. It sounds nice and can fit into any time period or society and implies something dainty and kind, but not without thorns.

I need help finding a bathing suit! (10 points)?
Okay, so Im a little chubby on the waist line but im exercising every day and eating healthier so i can loose most of it! But, i know its not going to be flat by the time summer comes, just good enough not to scare children ha ha jk. But i need a swim suit because im getting a season pass for my local water park! I need something that suits my non-flat belly and not too small on the chest area. (i have nice, but kind of big boobs) So pretty much anything that suits my body will be perfect! I love retro and vintage suits and how the undies were almost under the belly button, too bad they don’t sell those anymore =’(. Thanks! Send me as many links as you want!
first of all i think that if you keep going with your healthy regime and focus on exercises that tone the stomach area then you should see some results come summer - from your picture you don’t look like you need to be quite so insecure.
Anyway, if you don’t feel comfortable in a bikini i would suggest either a one piece swimsuit or a tankini. if you have a big boobs then make sure it has good straps (so you don’t scare the children! lol!) i would recommend a halter-neck style as they also balance out the hips and draw attention away, for instance from your stomach. underwired cups might also be good to look at but with most retro and vintage styles they tend to define and support that area anyway. with a swimsuit your stomach will be covered and you could get one in a really cute polka dot print, or perhaps with ruffles, or piping (see link) which will also define your curves: http://www.ivillage.co.uk/beauty/fashion /picturegallery/popup/0,,716031,00.html
if you like retro style then you should like something like this jasmine guiness swimsuit from oli, and if you click along there are 12 different styles that can inspire you as to what you’d might like.
on the otherhand you could opt for a tankini which will show part of your stomach, but really aids in breaking up the area although i find these can be quite annoying especially say at a water park as they tend to ride up.
also, they still do sell the bikinis with high waisted bottoms, they came back into fashion only recently, i’m not sure exactly where you can get them from, the address below will take you to a blog, scroll down and the one before last has two pictures of the style you’re referring to and you can actually go on the websites to buy them (they are US though, you didn’t say where you were from) http://www.agentlover.com/blog/2009/04/1 6/on-the-search-for-the-perfect-retro-ba thing-suit-the-sequel/

How does one convert to atheism?
His hair is now grey and thinning, the lanky frame is a bit stooped and the eye glasses are more and more a permanent fixture.
But the eyes behind the lenses are still alert and lively, and the voice still carries the twanging cadences of Hawkeye, the irrepressible battleground anti-hero who helped make M*A*S*H one of the most honoured television series of all time.

its from alltel so no ventones & myxer dont work on this phone i have already tried that!
I would recommend trying Mobile17.com, I think I saw your phone on the listing.
What they do is, you upload a song (actually just a small clip about 30 seconds) from your computer and send it to your phone however you prefer. It’s free which is how they justify why it takes so long for you to receive the text message or e-mail. It’s how I got all my ring tones for my LG Envy.

That was the codename for the film so people would not know what it was. But when they released the movie, they decided to keep the codename instead of changing to the real one.
Wikipedia says:
Title
The film was titled Cloverfield from the beginning, but the title changed throughout production before it was finalized as the original title. Matt Reeves explained that the title was changed frequently due to the hype caused by the teaser trailer, "That excitement spread to such a degree that we suddenly couldn’t use the name anymore. So we started using all these names like Slusho and Cheese.[9] And people always found out what we were doing!" The director said that "Cloverfield" was the government’s case designation for the events caused by the monster, comparing the titling to that of the Manhattan Project. "And it’s not a project per se. It’s the way that this case has been designated. That’s why that is on the trailer, and it becomes clearer in the film. It’s how they refer to this phenomenon [or] this case", said the director.[10] The film’s final title, Cloverfield, is the name of the exit Abrams takes to his Santa Monica office.[9][11]
One final title, Greyshot, was proposed before the movie was officially titled Cloverfield. The name Greyshot is taken from the archway that the two survivors take shelter under at the end of the movie. Director Matt Reeves said that it was decided not to change the title to Greyshot because the film was already so well known as Cloverfield.[12]
The other tentative film titles were:
* 1-18-08 (USA) (promotional title)
* Cheese (USA) (fake working title)
* Clover (USA) (fake working title)
* Monstrous (USA) (promotional title)
* Slusho (USA) (fake working title)
* Untitled J.J. Abrams Project (USA) (working title)
* Greyshot (USA) (proposed title)

How does one explain our innate desire for meaning?
I don’t think anyone out there denies that all humans desire purpose, and meaning. Of coarse, my explanation is, that there’s a God. However, if you don’t believe in God–then what is your explanation for this phenomenon? (not the scientific definition of the word) I say it’s a phenomenon, because animals are not worried about a purpose–they just live. All their actions and reactions are based on survival instinct. So why, since the very beginning of man are we constantly seeking meaning, purpose, and something to worship? If you say we evolved to that higher plane of being–doesn’t evolution only happen out of need? If these things really are futile, wouldn’t they set us back, instead of bring us where we are today? Let’s face it, a lot of our greatest Scientists were religious. Einstein, Newton, Bohr, Pasteur, Kepler, and the list goes on.
Everyone worships something. If you’re honest with yourself you’ll see that–whether it’s your job, your family, your science, your knowledge, or yourself–something is being worshipped. I think a better word to use here is to "serve". We can do nothing but serve something–or else our life really wouldn’t have purpose. Also, the definition of purpose? What does it even mean if you die and are forgotten? That’s what will happen to a vast majority of us–so what happened to your purpose?
The Lord Jesus put the desire for meaning, there, so that He would fill it with Himself!
JESUS is the meaning and purpose of life! Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much!
And the Trinity is true!
Only Jesus truly satisfies our souls, and only Jesus gives TRUE fulfillment! Nothing else will satisfy you or fulfill you, no matter what you acquire.
The meaning and purpose of life is to be loved, saved, and blessed by Jesus, and to glorify the Lord, and to serve and worship Jesus forever!
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in Jesus for salvation, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus alone for salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what!
Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).
Please pray now: "Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die!

We have an inate curiousity about things and realize it. Other animals have curiosity but don’t know why and don’t contimplate it, they just do it. It’s part of our evolution…
It’s built in and a god has nothing to do with it… that’s just some peoples explaination, doesn’t make it so…
BTW, I have no need to worship anything, but I do have a purpose in life, it just doesn’t involve a god… nor does it have to… if you thought about it, you wold see that..

We humans are pattern seeking machines. This provided an adaptive benefit to our ancestors. If we can make connections between a rock falling and breaking a bone open and using the rock as a tool to smash bones so as to get at the marrow, obviously we’ll have better chances at survival. But this simple ability to make abstract connections has left us with a desire to make wholistic sense of absolutely everything, trying to make a pattern that will account for the entire universe.
Rico JPA | Feb 04, 2010
I think that our thirst for knowledge puts us in a situation where we think that there are answers for everything even when there may not be. The further back we go in history, the more need we had for gods to explain how our world worked. As we learned more, we needed the god-explanation less and less.
Many people cling to their beliefs, not because they want the world explained but because they want their afterlife explained. We fear death. As humans, we know we will die. We don’t know what happens afterwards, if anything. Knowledge of our mortality drives many people to find solace in something that will protect us.
Myself, I don’t seek solace. I know I will die and I believe that is all there is. This drives me to live a better life here. I want to be the best I can be for my friends and loved ones because once I am gone, I can’t be there for them any more.

Many people today just the enormous contributions Christians who were scientist have made for centuries and continued to make today.
Ignorance would think all of the scientific folk today are non believers.

It’s our specialisation.
We recognise the connection between things. For instance, when some caveman {yes, I know most of them didn’t actually live in caves, but it’s a convenient shorthand for "our prehistoric ancestors"} bashed a couple of rocks together and some nearby dry grass went on fire, he made the connection that you can start a fire that way. When some other caveman heard something moving nearby, turned round and found that his friend wasn’t there anymore, he made the connection that tigers eat people. And so on.
Sometimes we falsely see connections where there isn’t one. This wasn’t a problem for cavemen, who spent every minute trying to get through the next minute. After the Agricultural Revolution, however, people had more time to think about other things; like "why are we here?"
Unfortunately, they got it spectacularly wrong.

The desire for meaning and purpose comes from the human-primate brain and the way it is structured. We are a tool-using animal, therefore when we look at objects we see how might they be utilized. This assigns attributes and functions to our environment, after some time the functions of these objects become the very purpose for these objects when they become specialized tools. [A hammer's purpose is to hammer nails, using it for other things is outside its 'purpose', in truth, its but a shaped rock on a stick]
However when man looks into the mirror and sees himself, the same mechanisms fire in the brain signally the question "what is my function, what is my purpose?" We see ourselves as tools and look for a pre-defined purpose, all the while forgetting that it is we who designate purpose/meaning to things. We must use ourselves and provide ourselves with meaning.
Our ability to question our environment and our difference from animals is a byproduct of language and the ability to have that inner dialog with oneself. It is still a survival instinct, but remarkably complex and one that adapts to the environment. We seek to worship things because we evolved as a pack species. We follow the alpha male of pack, they lead us to the greatest success and in order for the pack to work, we must all follow and respect the alpha male.
All these tool-using instinct and pack-following instincts has helped us survive. New mutations are popping up everyday, that which is most favorable, that which is most attractive will be the traits which are more popular in the future, thus is evolution.
It is possible to marvel in the beauty of nature, to be spiritual. But to be religious requires dogma. There is a stark contrast. Those scientists were spiritual, not religious.

Einstein was a pantheist. He didn’t believe in a personal god, although his quote "God doesn’t play dice with the universe" has been misused by Christians ever since he uttered it.
Animals do not have the intellectual capacity for self-awareness, we do. That’s why we are always seeking a purpose to things. That doesn’t mean there is a purpose to everything, some stuff just happens. I am far happier now that I don’t attribute some divine malevolence to natural occurrences on this planet. There is a logical, natural explanation to everything even if you can’t see it.
I define what has meaning in my life. I make my own purpose. We all do, whether we are consciously aware of it or not.
